Women In Music

women in music

Let's take a look at a few of the women in music that have made an impact in the industry. Bonnie Raitt, Joan Jett and Melissa Etheridge.

I've decided to highlight three very different styles of music played by three very different women performers but who are all very accomplished guitar players.

They have all influenced me in one way or another and I've learned the importance of versatility when it comes to learning from thesse ladies.

Let's start with Bonnie Raitt.

After leaving her home town and moving to Philadelphia,Bonnie by this stage was now playing a variety of styles of music from folkto rhythm and blues all the while, perfecting her style of bottle neck blues for which she is renowned for.

Her first hit, a cover of Del Shannons 'Runaway'from the 'Sweet Forgiveness' album was the first of many hit songs for her.

Bonnie kicked the drugs and alcohol and finally gained commercial success with her tenth album 'Nick of Time' which went to the top of the charts after winning a load of grammys in 1990.

Many albums and accolades later, Bonnie is still working hard on and off the stage with her charity work and music that's keeping her busy.

women in music Bonnie has a unique style of playing slide guitar on both electric and acoustic guitars.

Her slide break in the song "Slow Ride' is hauntingly classy and the sound she gets from her Strat is amazing. Click here for more info on Bonnie Raitt.
