Famous rock bands that have made a difference to music!

bands

When you think about it, there have been hundreds of famous bands over the years.

Starting way back in the 1950's with Bill Haley and the Comets with their infamous 'Rock Around The Clock', and Chuck Berry with everybodys favourite song, 'Johnny Be Good'.

Then we move into the 1960's and 70's we have The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who and who could forget, The Beatles.

All of these bands and many more, have influenced the way music has developed one way or another.

Every artist that's performing today, whether he or she is a player or a singer, has someone that they were influenced by that inspired them to follow their dreams and become a performer.

For me it was Fleetwood Mac, The Eurythmics, The Eurogliders, and U2. They were my main inspiration when I first started out.

I'm going to high light a few groups that I think have influenced a few generations of budding musicians.

Some of them have pioneered rock and roll in some way that has made a differenceto the musicians of today.

Whether it's the look or the style, it all counts when someone is watching and admiring.

Let's start with The Rolling Stones.

bands Members of today

Mick Jagger, Ron Wood, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts

Former Members

Brian Jones, Ian Stewart, Dick Taylor, Mick Taylor and Bill Wyman

The Rolling Stones were formed in 1962 when Brian Jones and pianist Ian Stewart were joined by Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards.

Bass player Bill Wyman and drummer Charlie Watts completed the original lineup.

At first they recorded mainly covers of American blues and R&B songs, but since the 1966 album Aftermath, their releases have mainly featured Jagger and Richards songs.

Mick Taylor replaced Brian Jones just before Jones' death in 1969. Taylor then quit in 1974 and was replaced by Ron Wood who is still in the band today.

Over the years, the 'Stones' have endured tragedy, drugs, alcohol abuse, medical issues, members leaving, record company changes and just about everything else that a band could go through.

They have been touring the world for over forty years packing out stadiums, making great music and selling millions of albums.

Fleetwood Mac

My favorite group of all time. When I was about 9 years old, I would lie in bed every night with my dads transistor radio waiting for Fleetwood Macs 'Sara' to come on. I wouldn't go to sleep until I had heard it.

Then when I was in high school, the 'Rumours' album was released and I was in love.

Now that I am older, I am appreciating their music much more and am looking forward to them touring Australia again.

Fleetwood Mac formed in 1967, with a combination of British and American musicians.

The only member to outlast the many changes of Fleetwood Mac is Mick Fleetwood, drummer and name sake of the band.

The 2 most successful periods for them were during the late 1960's when Peter Green was the guitar player, and between 1975 to 1987 with the more pop orientated line up of John and Christine McVie and the best thing I think ever happened to the band was the partnership of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham completing the line up.

Bob Welch was a member between 1971 and 1974 before Stevie and Lindsay re-joined.

The recent departure of Christine McVie leaves a four piece line up of Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham currently touring the United States.

Around the late 80's, Lindsey Buckingham decided to move on and Rick Vito and Billy Burnette were brought in to replace him.

I saw the band in Sydney in 1988 and although I enjoyed the concert, I would have much preferred Lindsey Buckingham on guitar and vocals.

I enjoyed their reunion album 'The Dance' and the dvd of the show is awesome.

Lindsey is such an outstanding guitarist/performer/song writer and I recently heard that he doesn't know how to read music which was a surprise to me.
